The YA fiction book Throne of Glass is written by an American author Sarah J Maas and is part of an eight-book series called ‘Throne of Glass’. It is set one year after the events of ‘The Assassins Blade’ which is the series prequel.

The story follows seventeen-year-old Celaena Sardothien, who has been working in the salt mines of Endovier to pay for her crimes as an assassin, as she is offered an ultimatum by the Crown Prince Dorian of the corrupt kingdom of Ardalan: take part in a competition to become the new royal assassin or stay in the salt mines. As the story progresses, Celaena makes unlikely friends and discovers dark secrets about the Ardalan Empire.

I discovered this book a few years ago after receiving one of the later books as a present. Before reading this series, I was adamant to only read the Harry Potter books which I love, but this series quickly changed my mind through the rich fantasy, strong, relatable, inspirational female characters, and the unique and clever plot line.

I would highly recommend it to fantasy fans. It is extremely well written with memorable quotes ‘I could survive well enough on my own if given the proper reading material’.

Sarah J Maas has also written another unique series called ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’, similar to Throne of Glass through the amazing world-building, believable characters, and mind-blowing plot twists.
