MAGNA CARTA DAY IS ON AND EGHAM IS OPENING BACK UP!

On 26 June 2021 Magna Carta Day will re-launch Egham High Street with music and colour, after a year of great disruption to the life of the town.  After a year off,  we are celebrating what should be the 30th Magna Carta Day,  with a programme of entertainment,  stalls and fair-rides.

Local and professional entertainers will tempt our residents and visitors into the town and give a welcome boost to local businesses.  We welcome local charities, schools, clubs and organisations back, to set out (and set up) their stalls, to raise their profiles, raise funds, and tell people about their activities.  There will also be craft stalls and tempting food outlets.

The High Street will be closed to traffic for the day, from the gate at the junction of the High Street and Station Road to the end where the High Street merges with Church Road to make an event safe for the family.

The celebration of the town is organised mainly by Egham Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Residents Association and the Borough Council, and some sponsorship by local businesses.

Magna Carta Day was first celebrated in Egham High Street in 1992.  It was originally intended as a one-off event to attract visitors back to the High Street after a year during which the town was disrupted by building works.  Since then the celebration has grown, and become the established start of the summer in the Egham.

Magna Carta Day also hopes to introduce Egham’s newest community asset with the proposed launch of @TheLit, a cultural and community hub based at the Egham Literary Institute which will offer a space for the community to use all year round.
