CLLR ELAINE GILL
Having been re-elected as Mayor of Runnymede on 19th May 2021 until May 2022, I am now looking forward to some freedom and being able to attend many different events and meet the residents of Runnymede.
My first official duty was to attend the opening of the new day centre for Runnymede Dementia Carers Support, one of my chosen charities. It was heartwarming to see those with dementia and their carers joining in and socialising, for many the first physical contact in many, many months.
I have also visited the Community Fridge/Kitchen project at Englefield Green, run by Ali Watts, a truly amazing lady. Fresh food is obtained and cooked and made available to the community. The spirit of bringing people together and helping residents was wonderful to see.
I also attended the Virginia Water Jumble Trail. The weather on the Bank Holiday truly enhanced this event and everyone present expressed joy at some freedom of being out and about.
Also in May, I had the privilege of holding a small gathering to celebrate special recognition for Dennis Brown. He has been a member of Egham Band for over 50 years and has served the community of Runnymede admirably over this time and is involved in many different initiatives with the youth of the Borough and also the Town Twinning with Bergisch Gladbach.
Although some larger events part of the Runnymede annual calendar have been cancelled for 2021, I am looking forward to being involved and seeing many of you over the coming months.
