CLLR ELAINE GILL
Life for me with my Mayoral duties is now starting to increase and I am delighted that I have been able to get out and about within the community of Runnymede. Although some larger events were cancelled over the Summer there was Magna Carta Day, Black Cherry Fair and Classic Car Show in Egham. I also held my Civic Service in June at St. Mary’s Thorpe with restricted numbers, but it holds a special memory for me.
I also want to say thank you to those who have worked hard during the pandemic so I was able to visit “Safer Runnymede” at the Civic Offices in Addlestone with the CEO of Runnymede Paul Turrell and also the Depot at Runnymede. They have all worked constantly during the pandemic and provide vital services to all the residents of Runnymede. I hope that in the future a “Thank You” event can be held to meet more of those within the community who have worked so hard on our behalf.
Let us hope with success of the vaccination programme and proposed Covid booster jabs in the Autumn in conjunction with the Flu Vaccine programme, we can build on this and get back to some form of “normality”.
I am looking forward to holding my first Charity event at Savill Garden on 24th September and hopefully can update with more of the other events in future editions. My nominated charities are Runnymede Dementia Carers Support and also a Mayoral Legacy of Trees for Runnymede.
In conjunction with my tree project, I am contacting all schools in Runnymede in the Autumn term 2021 with a proposal to plant some saplings when the planting season begins in October, so watch this space for further updates.
