THORPE PLAYERS

In this odd year, as an amateur drama group, we have had our wings severely clipped.  The guidelines keep changing, and it may be that we can do some kind of performance in November, but we have to wait and see.  So, as we have no shows in rehearsal at the moment, this is an introduction to Thorpe Players ………

In 1953, having just moved to the village, Frank Muir – wit, raconteur and television personality – decided to put his considerable talents into forming a drama group based at Thorpe Village Hall. Over sixty years later, with many of our members now coming from outside Thorpe, the aim of the group is still the same as it was then – to enjoy our acting, each other’s company, and to make sure that the audience enjoys our shows. We normally perform two major productions a year at the Village Hall, and our calendar includes One-Act Supper Evenings, Murder Mystery Evenings and numerous social events.

Many people think that you have to be an actor to join an amateur dramatics group. Not true; there is a lot more to running a group than the productions themselves. We have a busy social calendar, write some of our own shows, and need volunteers to ensure that group is properly run. It is relatively easy to recruit people who want to act, but far more difficult to find people who would be more interested in the technical, production or management side of the group. We welcome new members (over the age of 16) on stage or backstage, technical or Front of House – there are always plenty of opportunities with each play. If you would like to find out more about us please contact

If you are more interested in being audience, we run a free mailing list for each of our main events. If you wish to be added to this please e-mail your details to
